SIX GARNER ALL-NWC HONORS: Stephanie Vanoudenhaegen and Chelsey Chamberlain repeated as first team selections, Lauren Tuey and Jordan Mittelsdorf were second team honorees and Becca Moen and Ashley Billingsley earned honorable mention recognition.
Vanoudenhaegen earned her second straight first team selection after two seasons as a second teamer. She was also recognized as an All-West Region First Team honoree and with selection to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Second Team with a cumulative 3.45 grade point average. In her senior campaign, Vanoudenhaegen set new single season school records with 53 runs, 57 hits and 38 stolen bases. She also led the NWC in stolen bases and stolen base attempts, ranked third with a .510 on base percentage and fourth with a .429 batting average. Nationally among NCAA Division III players, she was sixth with 0.95 stolen bases per game and 15th with 1.33 runs per game.
Chamberlain earned First Team honors for the third straight year as a utility player and earned her third selection onto an All-West Region team, this season being slected as a second team member. This season, she also set new school records with 13 home runs and 63 runs batted in. She led the NWC with four sacrifice flies, was second with 14 doubles, third in RBIs and two triples, fourth with a .891 slugging percentage and 106 total bases. Chamberlain also ranked fifth in the nation for RBIs per game with 1.58, 10th in home runs, 17th in sacrifice flies and with 0.33 home runs per game and 19th in slugging percentage.
Tuey controlled the hot corner for Pacific this season. The third baseman earned her first NWC honors after compiling a .349 batting average, 37 hits, 22 RBIs and four home runs, including her first collegiate home run on Feb. 11. Defensively, she collected 51 assists and had 37 putouts.
Mittelsdorf, the Boxers’ primary catcher, moved up to second team after earning honorable mention recognition last season. She had a career high five home runs this season while collecting 21 RBIs and 35 hits. She also compiled 216 putouts behind the plate.
Moen, who suffered an early season injury, came on strong in conference play and earned honorable recognition as an outfielder in her first season in a Pacific uniform. She had a .364 batting average with 24 hits and 25 runs scored. Moen collected nine putouts and two assists in just 22 games in the outfield.
Billingsley earned her third All-NWC honor. The honorable mention selection in 2011 as an infielder was a second team honoree last year and an honorable mention selection as a freshman. The first baseman, Billingsley had 239 putouts this season, six assists and a .976 fielding percentage. At the plate, she had 39 hits, six home runs, 11 doubles and 29 RBIs.
SIX STRAIGHT WINNING SEASONS: This season the Boxers accumulated a 22-18 record overall to make it six straight winning seasons for Tim Hill’s troops.
The string of winning years started in 2006, when the Boxers were 23-15-1. In 2007, they were 25-13. They returned to the field in 2008 to set a school record with 31 wins and collected a 31-9 record. In 2009, they had a 28-12 record and followed that up with a 31-17 record in 2010.
RECORD-SETTING SEASON: This season, Pacific broke five individual single season records, two team season hitting records and one team season pitching record.
Individually, Stephanie Vanoudenheagen broke the records in hits with 57, runs with 53 and stolen bases with 38. Chelsey Chamberlain broke the RBI record with 63 and the home run record with 13, both records she broke last season as well.
As a team, the Boxers finally broke the team season batting average record with an average of .348. The previous three seasons, Pacific’s softball squads had posted a .341 batting average. They also broke the team hits record compiling 377 hits over the 40 games this season.
In the team season pitching category, the pitching staff combined for four saves to break the record of three saves.
CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL LEADERS: As a team, Pacific led the conference with 14 sacrifice flies and four saves. They were second in batting average (.348), sacrifice bunts (26) and batters struck out (188) and third in slugging percentage (.510), on base percentage (.410), runs scored (266), hits (377), runs batted in (327), triples (6), home runs (34), total bases (553), stolen bases (72), opposing batting average (.265) and wins (22).
Nationally, the Boxers were 21st in home runs per game (0.85), 28th in batting average and 29th slugging percentage.
MOVING ON: Seniors Brooke Toy and Stephanie Vanoudenheagen may be done with their collegiate playing days, but both have left an impression on the Pacific softball team.
Toy has played nearly everywhere on the field for the Boxers. As a freshman, she earned Second Team All-NWC honors as an infielder playing the designated player position and first base for Pacific. She also set a single season record with six home runs and hitting the first home run in the history of Sherman/Larkins Stadium, a grand slam on Apr. 5, 2008. As a sophomore, she earned Honorable Mention All-NWC recognition as a catcher. As a junior, she moved around playing shortstop, catcher and leftfield. She closed her career out as a second baseman, where she led the team with 70 assists and collected 57 putouts.
Vanoudenheagen has been a leader in the outfield for the Boxers since her freshman season. She earned Second Team All-NWC honors as an outfielder as a freshman after posting an errorless season, she then repeated as a second team selection as a sophomore. As a junior, she was a First Team All-NWC selection and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic Selection. In her senior campaign, she set new school records in runs, hits and stolen bases en route to earning First Team All-NWC honors for the second time and being named to Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Second Team as an outfielder.
