FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific Open was held on Saturday and it turned out to be a solid day for the host Boxers. Pacific athletes won 13 of the 33 events contested at the meet and finished first and second in four of those 13.
Three athletes won multiple events. Garret Price (Medford, Ore.) won the men's 100 and 200 meters,
Naom Bass (San Diego, Calif.) won the men's long jump and triple jump and
Karen Du (Santa Clarita, Calif.) won the women's shot put and discus throw. Bass was also on the winning men's 4 x 400 relay team along with
Grant Brobeck (Clackamas, Ore.),
Garrett Stewart (Forest Grove, Ore.) and
Riley Stewart (Forest Grove, Ore.).
Tash Stuart-Shuman (Camarillo, Calif.) won the women's 800 meters.
Shannon Hammond (Forest Grove, Ore.) won the women's high jump.
Brynna Close (Riverside, Calif.) won the women's pole vault.
Jenna Hoiland (Happy Valley, Ore.) and Hammond went 1-2 in the women's triple jump and Bass and
Alec Furst (Medford, Ore.) went 1-2 in the men's triple jump.
Dylan Knostman (Fortuna, Calif.) won the men's javelin throw.
Jason Draper (Novato, Calif.) and
Brian King (Los Angeles, Calif.) went 1-2 in the men's hammer throw. Du,
Megan Wesel (Winchester, Calif.),
Dianna Church (Bothell, Wash.) and
Emily DeYoung (McMinnville, Ore.) went 1-2-3-4 in the women's shot put.
New Northwest Conference Championship qualifying marks were achieved by Price in the 200 (22.52), R. Stewart in the 1500 (4:09.40), Hoiland in the 100 hurdles (16.76) and
Airel Farley (Glide, Ore.) in the steeplechase (12.56.10). Marks moving into the Pacific all-time top 10 included
Audrey Lincoln (Hermiston, Ore.) in the 200 (26.85), Hoiland in the 100 hurdles, Farley in the steeplechase and Wesel (12.70m [41-8]) and DeYoung (11.41m [37-5.25]) in the shot put.
Pacific will host a meet again next weekend. The Pacific Luau Invitational will be Saturday, April 7 at Hanson Stadium.
