Boxers Tune Up For NWC at Lewis & Clark Invite
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific track & field teams competed in their final meet prior to the Northwest Conference Championships at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Saturday. Four new NWC Championship qualifying marks were recorded along with 13 personal bests and several more seasonal bests.
Â
The Boxers finished third for both the men and the women in the team scoring. The men scored 109 points and finished behind George Fox and Pacific Lutheran and ahead of Linfield, Puget Sound and Lewis & Clark. The women scored 108.83 points and finished behind Linfield and Pacific Lutheran and ahead of Lewis & Clark, Puget Sound and George Fox.
Â
The performance of the meet was turned in by freshman
Jenna Hoiland (Oregon City, Ore.). On her fourth attempt in the long jump she caught her hand on her spikes and opened up a three inch cut. She had the trainers clean it up and bandage it, but was told she would have to go to the emergency room for stitches. Prior to leaving for the hospital she took her final attempt and recorded her best mark of the season by almost 10 inches (4.98m [16-4.25]) and qualified for the NWC Championships in the process. She missed the rest of the meet while getting four stitches in her hand.
Â
In addition to Hoiland, three other Boxers hit qualifying marks on Saturday.Â
Jason Draper (Novato, Calif.) set a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.22m (141-10).Â
Bailey Servoss (Mount Vernon, Wash.) qualified in her second event with a personal best jump of 1.49m (4-10.5) in the high jump.Â
Marissa Smith (Rancho Cordova, Calif.) qualified in the 200 meters (26.83) and will compete in that event along with both relays.Â
Karen Du (Santa Clarita, Calif.) was the only Boxer to have two personal bests on the day. She improved on her #2 all-time mark in the discus throw with a toss of 40.53m (133-0) and moved up to #3 in the shot put with a mark of 12.21 (40-2).
Â
The Northwest Conference Championships will take place on this coming Friday and Saturday, April 21-22 at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. The Boxers have 33 qualifiers for the meet with 18 ranked in the top five in their event.Â
Kolby Nikolaisen (Sumner, Wash.) and
Emily Sproul (Salem, Ore.) are ranked first in their respective events, the pole vault (4.57m [15-0]) and javelin throw (40.48m [132-10]).
