Results (PDF)NEWBERG, Ore. — For the second week in a row, there's a new entry in the Pacific University women's track and field relay record book.
Last Saturday, the 4 x 400 squad broke the four-minute barrier (3:99.99) to climb to the top of Boxer record charts. Not to be outdone, the 4 x 100 relay team clipped the school record in their event with a time of 49.32 at the George Fox Rich Allen Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Breezy Brookbank,
Mikaela Bernards,
Ary Burgoyne and
Marissa Smith wrote their name in the record books, topping the previous mark of 49.36 set in 2012. Pacific Lutheran helped pace them to the sizzling time, just edging the Boxers in a photo finish at 49.30.
Brookbank and Smith were also on last week's 4 x 400 relay team.
There weren't any first-place finishes for the Boxers in the meet which featured the host Bruins, Corban, Linfield, Puget Sound, Lewis & Clark, Pacific Lutheran and Evergreen State.
But field event performances also highlighted the day for Coach
Matt Lydum's team.
Karen Du placed second and posted the Northwest Conference's top mark in the discus this year with a fling of 130-1 1/4. Corban's Crystal Lynch won the event at 133-0.
Emily Sproul was second in the javelin with a throw of 127-1 1/2, and Diana Church got the silver in the shot put (38-3 1/2).
Megan Wesel was right behind Church with a heave of 37-8.
Shannon Hammond was fourth in the high jump (5-0 1/2).
On the track,
Megan Eberhardt finished second in the 400 meters (1:01.34).
Elaina Gillespie was third in the steeplechase (12:52.88) and
Serena Wallace was sixth in the 5,000 meters (19:32.40).
For the men,
Josh Huffman was third in the discus (135-10 1/2), while
George Twigg-Smith was fourth in the long jump (20-8) and fifth in the high jump (6-4). James Willcuts was third in the triple jump (40-3 1/4).
In the running events,
Kyle Eisenbeis was third in the steeplechase in 10:06.74. Sean Higginbotham was third in the 400 meters (51.08) and Connor Pappas was fifth (51.47). The 4 x 100 relay team of of Higginbotham,
Garrett Price,
Dalton Stanley and
Bailey Muller were third in 43.14.
The Boxers will host the Pacific Open next Saturday at Hanson Stadium. Start time is 10 a.m.
