Heptathlon ResultsFOREST GROVE, Ore. —
Jacob Richards completed his first-ever decathlon and
Shannon Hammond qualified for the Northwest Conference Championships in the heptathlon during the two-day Pacific Combined Events competition at Hanson Stadium.
Hammond finished fifth of eight competitors with a point tally of 3,443. The Forest Grove native had the second best time in the field in the 100 hurdles (16.89), and also qualified for the NWC championships in that event as well.
The sophomore also had the third best mark in the long jump (15-4 1/4) and in the javelin (93-8). The seven-event competition was won by Corban's Lindsay Asplund, who just edged Pacific Lutheran's Machaela Graddy by two points (3,617 to 3,615).
Richards, who is also a wrestler on the Boxer squad, finished with 4,483 points in his first 10-event competition. He finished ninth of 11 athletes. The Fort Bragg, Calif. native had the third best fling in the discus with a heave of 107-10 3/4.
The decathlon was won by Portland State's Kevin Robinson (6,274), who finished ahead of Corban's Jason Bracken (6,125).
The Boxer track and field teams will compete at the Willamette Invitational this Saturday in Salem.
