Hawkins Leads Late Rush Of Pacific NWC Track Qualifiers

PORTLAND, Ore. – Budweiser Hawkins (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) earned Northwest Conference Championships qualifying marks in two additional events Saturday, leading five new championships qualifying marks for the Pacific track and field teams at the Lewis & Clark Invitational, held at the Eldon Fix Track.
 
Already qualified in the long jump and high jump, Hawkins added qualifiers with victories in the men's 100 meters and triple jump.  Hawkins won the 100 meters in a time of 11.23 seconds.  Saturday marked the first time that Hawkins had competed collegiately in the triple jump and his mark of 13.70m ranks No. 7 on the Pacific all-time list.
 
George Twigg-Smith (Fr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) secured himself a spot at the conference meet with a third place finish in the triple jump, leaping 12.89m.  Jesse Bethke (Sr., Cave Junction, Ore.) qualified for his third event at conference, placing third in the shot put with a mark of 13.73m.
 
Hayley Palmer (Sr., Sisters, Ore.) was the lone Pacific women's athlete to add a NWC Championships mark, placing sixth in the 200 meters with her time of 27.10 seconds.  The mark also improved her No. 8 time on the Pacific all-time list.
 
Shannon Hammond (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) joined Hawkins as an individual event winner, capturing the women's triple jump with a personal best of 11.15m.  The mark ranks No. 2 on the Pacific all-time list.
 
Additional top placers for the Boxers included Trey Oshiro-Atabay (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii), who finished .02 seconds off of his lifetime best in the 400 meters with a second place time of 50.16 seconds.  Daniel Wagner (Sr., Kailua, Hawaii) cut two seconds off of his season best in the men's 400-meter hurdles, placing third in 56.35 seconds.  Marshall Taunton (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) placed fifth in the men's pole vault in 3.92m while Jeremy Parkinson (Jr., Hubbard, Ore.) was sixth the men's long jump with a mark of 6.40m.
 
Pacific will now look ahead to the Northwest Conference Championships.  The meet will take place Friday and Saturday at Stauffer Family Stadium in Newberg.
