Box ScoreTACOMA, Wash. – Marshall Taunton (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) and Shannon Hammond (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) opened up Pacific's track and field season Monday and Tuesday, representing the Boxers at the Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships, held at Baker Stadium.

Taunton earned the Pacific men a point towards next week's NWC Track and Field Championships, placing eighth in the decathlon with a score of 5,151 points. The performance is nearly a 500-point improvement over his first collegiate decathlon, the Mar. 23 Linfield Multi-Event. The performance also puts Taunton at No. 6 on Pacific's all-time list.

Hammond put together an 11th place finish in the heptathlon with a score of 3,556 points. Â That too represented a nearly 500-point improvement over her first performance at Linfield and moves her into No. 4 on the Pacific all-time list.

Taunton's top first day performances came in the sprints, placing eighth in the 100 meters in 12.21 seconds and eighth in the 400 meters in 57.22 seconds. His best performances came in the field events on the second day, placing third in the discus with a mark of 31.12m and tying for third in the pole vault with a clearance 3.65m.

Hammond's top performance came on the first day of the heptathlon, tying for first with George Fox's Charity Arn in the high jump with a clearance of 1.56m. Hammond's top second day performance came in the javelin where she placed fifth with a mark of 27.33m.
