Bailey Martinez's (Jr., Gig Harbor, Wash.) second season as a collegiate wrestler has ended with an impressive run to an All-American trophy.
Â

Martinez battled back from a first round loss to win three matches by pin and finished in seventh place in the 143-pound weight class at the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships, which concluded today at Missouri Baptist College's Petty Sports & Recreation Complex.
Â
Martinez claimed seventh place by a default over Angelina Fabbri of Lindenwood. It concluded a tournament that saw her go 4-2 in the 143-pound bracket to finish with a team-best 15-8 record.
Â
"We're so happy for Bailey. It has been quite a journey over these last few years," said Pacific head wrestling coach
Severin Walsh. "We are excited for the future and the possibilities it holds for her as she prepares for next year."
Â
Martinez started her comeback from the first round loss to Oklahoma City's Heiley Garcia with a pin of Missouri Valley's Kathleen Sugden on Friday. She earned two more pins to open the Saturday session, needing 1:07 to down Jamestown's Adrena Ng and 1:57 to knock off Lindenwood's Anna McAleavey. Her consolation fifth round match was a heartbreaker as she tied in points with McKendree's Cassanda Herkelman, 5-5, but lost the decision on criteria.
Â
With the victory, Martinez becomes Pacific's first women's wrestling All-American since 2012.
