Kawai, Wagner Lead Boxers In Home Track And Field Finale

FOREST GROVE – Kelson Kawai (Sr., North Kohala, Hawaii) came up a winner in his last home meet while Daniel Wagner (Jr., Kailua, Hawaii) notched a second place finish Saturday as the Pacific track and field teams completed their seventh annual Pacific Twilight meet at Lincoln Park Stadium.
 
Kawai won his specialty event, the men's high jump, clearing a height of 6 feet, 4 inches, as he was one of 11 Pacific track and field seniors competing in their final home meet.  Kawai also added a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet.
 
Wagner, who finished second in the men's 110-meter hurdles at the Northwest Conference Championships last weekend, finished second again as he crossed the line in 15.67 seconds.  The duo led a total of 18 top-10 finishes in the meet for the Boxers.  A total of 18 teams from the Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college ranks and a total of 496 athletes entered the two-day meet.
 
Kris Sapp (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) turned in a sixth place finish in the men's 100 meters with a time of 11.22 seconds and placed eighth in men's 200 meters in a time of 22.95 seconds.  Sean Higginbotham (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) added a sixth place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 51.73 seconds.  Aaron Koford (Sr., Wilsonville, Ore.) added an eighth place finish in the 100 meters in 11.53 seconds.  He also placed ninth in the pole vault with a clearance of 13 feet, 0.25 inches, and 10th in the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 6 inches.
 
In addition, the men's 400-meter relay team, comprised of Higginbotham, Sapp, Koford and Trey Oshiro-Atabay (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) placed second in a time of 43.59 seconds.
 
In the women's sprints, Kelli Aken-Pagdilao (Sr., Makawao, Hawaiii) placed seventh in the women's 100 meters, running 12.77 seconds in her final home meet.  She also finished eighth in the long jump with a season best of 15 feet, 10.5 inches.    Kelsey Lee (So., Monroe, Wash.) placed sixth in the women's 400-meter hurdles, clocking 1:07.09.  Emily Tuffey (Jr., Valencia, Calif.) added a10th place finish in the women's 200 meters with a time of 27 seconds.
 
Jeremy Parkinson (So., Hubbard, Ore.) led the remainder of the Pacific jumpers as he tied for sixth place in the men's high jump, clearing 5 feet, 10. 75 inches.  McKenna Davidson (So., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) placed seventh in the women's long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 11.75 inches.
 
Emily Geddes (Fr., Bend, Ore.) finished in a tie for sixth in the women's pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 6.25 inches.  Tesla Wright (Fr., Bend, Ore.) added a ninth place finish, clearing 9 feet, 0.25 inches.  Michael Teves (Fr., Makawao, Hawaii) added a seventh place finish in the men's pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 6.25 inches.
 
Jesse Bethke (Jr., Cave Junction, Ore.) rounded out the top-10 placers, capturing sixth place in the discus with a throw of 140 feet. 7 inches.
 
A select number of Pacific athletes will continue to compete past this weekend in hopes of gaining or improving qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III Championships.  The Boxers are next scheduled to compete at the Linfield Last Chance Meet, next Saturday in McMinnville.
