LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Tyler Shipley (So., Forest Grove, Ore.) ran one of the most impressive performances of his college career Saturday night, shattering Pacific's men's 5,000-meter record at the Oxy Invite at the Bill Henry Track.

Running in a field of high caliber competition comprised mainly of Division I and unattached athletes, Shipley ran a time of 14:27.26, finishing in 13th place.  The time was not only a 27-second personal best, but shattered the previous record of 14:36.8 set by Roger Hansen in 1976.

"Tyler ran a phenomenal race," said Pacific Head Coach Tim Boyce.  "It was a great personal best.  He ran aggressive and confident from the starting gun.  I am really proud of him."

With the performance, Shipley finds himself in position to potentially qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in both distance events.  His 5,000-meter time is No. 19 in Division III while his school record time of 30:24.44 in the 10,000 meters, set at the Apr. 4 San Francisco State Distance Carnival, currently ranks No. 14.

Kelson Kawai (Sr., North Kohala, Hawaii) fell just short of a school record attempt in what is perhaps his final collegiate meet.  Kawai tied for eighth place, clearing 6 feet, 6.25 inches.  The mark is a half-inch short of his season best.

LINFIELD OPEN: Travis George (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) competed in the men's hammer for the second straight day, but this time came out with the victory as he won the event at the Linfield Open, held at Maxwell Field.

George finished with a mark of 162 feet, 9 inches, easily winning the three-man competition.  He bested second place Nick Fairhart of Linfield by three feet.

Taylor Hickson (Sr., Red Bluff, Calif.) captured third place in the men's javelin with a throw of 156 feet, 2 inches.

Michael Teves (Fr., Makawao, Hawaii) tied for first in a two-man competition in the men's pole vault with Dmitri Kabakov, with both men clearing 13 feet, 1.5 inches.  Emily Geddes (Fr., Bend, Ore.) tied for fourth in the women's pole vault, clearing 10 feet.
