NEWBERG, Ore. – An outstanding start to the season in the men's long jump for Budweiser Hawkins (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) and a pair of hurdles victories for Daniel Wagner (Jr., Kailua, Hawaii) led five Pacific individual event winners at the Rich Allen Classic, held at George Fox University's Colcord Field.
 
Hawkins, participating in his first meet of the season, won the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 5 inches.  The mark not only leads the NWC, but is talso he top mark in NCAA Division III so far this season.
 
Wagner, meanwhile, was a dual winner in both hurdles disciplines.  He cruised to a win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.18 seconds and also won the 400-meter hurdles in a season best time of 59.25 seconds.
 
Taylor Hickson (Jr., Red Bluff, Calif.) captured the men's javelin in his first meet of the season, throwing 178 feet, 3 inches.  Aaron Koford (Sr., Wilsonville, Ore.) won the men's pole vault by default as the only competitor in the pole vault with his mark of 11 feet, 11.75 inches.  Koford also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.44 seconds.
 
Kelsey Lee (So., Monroe, Wash.) earned the only women's individual title in the meet, winning the women's 400-meter hurdles in a time 1:09.85.
 
Alexis Damo (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) lowered her season best in the women's 400 meters, clocking a season best 1:01.48.  Kris Sapp (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) also lowered his season best in the men's 100 meters with a time of 11.41 seconds.
 
In the field events, the Boxers saw three tie for second place in the women's pole vault as Katie Johnson (So., Portland, Ore.), Shina Chung (So., Hilo, Hawaii) and Emily Geddes (Fr., Bend, Ore.) all cleared 9 feet, 0.25 inches.  Sara Davidson (So., St. Paul, Ore.) finished second in the women's discus with an 18-foot season best of 108 feet, 2 inches, and third in the shot put with a mark of 32 feet, 4.25 inches.
 
Mackenzie Huddleston (So., Milwaukie, Ore.) finished second in the women's high jump with an outdoor season best of 4 feet, 11 inches, while Sarah Curl (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) made her Pacific debut by tying for third with a mark of 4 feet, 7 inches.  On the men's side, Kelson Kawai (Sr., North Kohala, Hawaii) tied for second in the high jump with his clearance of 6 feet, 0.75 inches.
 
In the throws, Anna Toyas (Sr., Seaside, Ore.) finished third in the javelin with a mark of 108 feet, 8 inches, while Abby Jones (Jr., Haines, Alaska) debuted with a third place finish in the discus at 103 feet, 11 inches.
 
Chris McLinden (Sr., Redwood City, Calif.) placed third in the men's shot put with a mark of 39 feet, 9.25 inches while Travis George (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) improved his season best in the hammer with his third place finish of 151 feet, 10 inches.
 
Both the Pacific men and women placed third in a competitive three-way meet.  The Pacific men scored 46.5 points.  Homestanding George Fox won with 67.5 points while Linfield finished second with 51.5 points.  Linfield won the women's competition with 77.5 points.  George Fox was second with 71 and Pacific third with 33.5.
 
Pacific looks ahead to two meets next week.  The Boxers will host the Boxer Combined Event meet on Thursday and Friday at Lincoln Park Stadium.  Pacific will then compete in the Saints Open on Saturday at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.
