Parkinson, Bethke Lead Boxers In Peyton Scoring Meet

TACOMA, Wash. – Jeremy Parkinson's (So., Hubbard, Ore.) victory in the triple jump and Jesse Bethke's (Jr., Cave Junction, Ore.) led a pair of strong team performances for the Pacific track and field teams at the Peyton Scoring Meet, held Saturday amidst rainy conditions at Baker Stadium.
 
Parkinson, in his first triple jump outing of the season, was a narrow winner over Whitworth's Dane Larson, winning the event on his second jump with 42 feet, 6.75 inches.
 
Bethke, meanwhile, captured top honors in the men's discus by eight feet, winning the event with a throw of 137 feet, 6 inches.
 
The two wins led a fourth place finish for the Pacific men in the team competition, scoring 93 points.  Pacific's women scored 20.5 points to place fifth.
 
Trey Oshiro-Atabay (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) added a second place finish in the men's long jump, clearing a season-best 21 feet, 3.5 inches.  He later finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 51.28 seconds.  Kelson Kawai (Sr., North Kohala, Hawaii) had a second place finish in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 4.75 inches.
 
Budweiser Hawkins (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) placed third in both the high jump and the long jump, clearing 6 feet, 2.75 inches in the high jump and leaping 20 feet, 10 inches in the long jump.
 
Daniel Wagner (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii) placed third in the men's 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 57.79 seconds.  He also finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.12 seconds.
 
For the women, Kelsey Lee (So., Monroe, Wash.) led the way with a third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 1:09.23.  Mackenzie Huddleston (So., Milwaukie, Ore.) finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 7 inches, while Katie Johnson (So., Portland, Ore.) finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet. 0.25 inches.
 
Pacific returns to action next weekend, competing in the Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational in McMinnville.
