High Jumpers Lead Four Event Winners At Saints Open

GRESHAM, Ore. – Budweiser Hawkins (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) picked up victories in two events while Kelson Kawai (Sr., North Kohala, Hawaii), Tyler Shipley (So., Forest Grove, Ore.) and Daniel Wagner (Jr., Kailua, Hawaii) all won one event to lead the Pacific track and field teams at the Saints Open held at Mt. Hood CC.
 
Hawkins won the men's long jump outright with a leap of 22 feet, 4.25 inches and finished in a three-way tie with teammate Kawai and Spencer Blanks in the men's high jump with clearances of 6 feet, 6.75 inches.  The mark ties the duo for tops in the Northwest Conference and tied for second in the nation at the Division III level.
 
Shipley was an easy winner in the men's 5,000 meters, posting a 14-second victory with his time of 15:01.51.  Wagner established a new season best in winning the 110-meter hurdles with his winning time of 15.83 seconds.  He went on to place second in the 400-meter hurdles with a season best of 57.63 seconds, which ranks second in the NWC.
 
Gary Fanelli (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) established a new season best in the men's 800 meters, winning his section with a time of 1:55.87.
 
In the women's sprints, Kelli Aken-Pagdilao (Sr., Makawao, Hawaii) finished second in the second section of the 100 meters, running a season best of 12.95 seconds.  Kelsey Lee (So., Monroe, Wash.) was second in the second section of the 400-meter hurdles in 1:09.97 while Alexis Damo (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) finished third in the 400 meters with a season best of 1:00.18.
 
Kris Sapp (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) put together a pair of season best times in the men's 100 meters and 200 meters.  Sapp was third in the section in the 100 with a time of 11.19 seconds and finished third in the second section of the 200 in 22.94 seconds.
 
Pacific is back in action next weekend.  Most of the squad will compete at the L&C Invitational, which takes place Friday and Saturday in Portland.  Some Pacific athletes will try to gain entry into the Oregon Preview on Saturday at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene.
