Koford Finishes Fourth In Strong Day For Boxer Multi-Eventers

Aaron Koford (Sr., Wilsonville, Ore.) once again led a strong day for Pacific's multi-event specialists as he placed fourth in the decathlon at the Boxer Combined Event meet, which concluded Friday at Lincoln Park Stadium.

Koford tallied a personal best 5,784 points in the 10-event competition and easily qualified for the NWC Championships next month. The senior won the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 3 inches, placed third in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.76 seconds and found himself in second place in the overall competition until the final event, the 1,500 meters.

Michael Teves (Fr., Makawao, Hawaii) just missed qualifying for the NWC Championships in his first ever multi-event competition, placing 11th with 4,904 points. Teves opened the second day with a strong hurdles performance, placing eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 54.30 seconds.Â

Teves then put on a show in his specialty, the pole vault, tying with Zack Supple of Clackamas CC for first with a clearance of 14 feet, 1.25 inches. The mark is second best in the NWC this season and third in the nation among NCAA Division III athletes. He finished the day by placing fifth in the javelin with a throw of 134 feet, 2 inches, and a seventh place finish in the 1,500 meters.

Mackenzie Huddleston (So., Milwaukie, Ore.) finished 14th in the heptathlon with 2,636 points. Her best performance of the day came in the javelin where her mark of 126 feet, 6 inches, beat the field by 30 feet.

Ezekiel Smith of George Fox won the decathlon with a score of 6,138 points. Smith finished in the top four of every second day event with the exception of the javelin and led by a third place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:51.46). Cameron Braithwaite of Puget Sound was second with 5,802 points and Seth Buck of Clackamas CC was third with 5,784 points.

Elizabeth Venzon of Clackamas CC won the heptathlon with 4,226 points. Venzon was able to cruise after building a strong first-day lead and topped her second day with a second place finish in the long jump (17 feet, 2 inches). Amelia Maguin of Southern Oregon placed second with 4,086 points. The Raiders' Anna Reitman was third with 3,687 points.

The rest of the Pacific track and field team returns to competition on Saturday, taking part in the Saints Open at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.
