BOXERS PREP FOR LOW KEY MEET AFTER GOOD OPENER
After a quality opening performance to the outdoor season at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker on Friday and Saturday, the Pacific track and field team will aim to improve their marks in a more low-key setting this weekend. The Boxers travel to Eugene to compete in the Lane Preview at Lane Community College.

• Pacific had a total of 23 athletes qualify in 17 different events for the Northwest Conference Championships in the first weekend of the season at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker.
• Kelson Kawai tied for first in the men's high jump, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches. The mark is just three-quarters of an inch shy of his Pacific best. Kawai also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 44 feet, 4.75 inches. Both marks are NWC qualifying marks.
• Kelli Aken-Pagdilao notched NWC Championships qualifying marks in both the 100 and 200 meters. The junior placed second in the 100 meters in a time of 13.13 seconds and sixth in the 200 meters in a time of 27.22 seconds.
• Sean Valente had a pair of third place finishes, clocking 23.25 seconds in the 200 meters and 51.28 seconds in the 400 meters. Valente's 400-meter time qualifies for the NWC Championships while his time in the 200 meters missed by .01 seconds.
• Trey Oshiro-Atabay enters the week with the NWC's third best mark in the men's long jump. Oshiro-Atabay placed second at the Linfield Icebreaker with a mark of 21 feet, 3.25 inches..
• For the first time in a number of years, Pacific has two NWC Championships qualifiers in the pole vault. Shina Chung and Britta LaVoie tied for fourth at the Linfield Icebreaker with both athletes clearing 8 feet, 6.25 inches. The two are tied for third on Pacific's All-Time List in the event.
• Friday's running of the 10,000-meter races yielded five Pacific qualifiers for the NWC Championships. Tyler Shipley ran the No. 4 fastest time in school history, placing ninth in a time of 32:13.83. Dan Flora and Rudy Sanchez also ran qualifying times. Jilinda Franklin and Kiersten Iwai improved their times on the women's all-time list. Franklin finished sixth in 39:32.66 and Iwai finished seventh in 40:01.50.

LINFIELD ERIK ANDERSON MEMORIAL ICEBREAKER
Kelson Kawai (Jr., North Kohala, Hawaii) won the men's high jump and took second in the triple jump Saturday, leading a strong day for Pacific's sprinters and field athletes as the outdoor track and field season began with at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker, held at Maxwell Field.
After equaling his Pacific best of 6 feet, 4.75 inches in the final meet of the indoor season, Kawai cleared 6 feet, 4 inches to finish in a tie for first place with Spencer Blanks. He went on to post a strong season-opening mark in the triple jump as well, finishing second with his performance of 44 feet, 4.75 inches.
Trey Oshiro-Atabay (So., Aiea, Hawaii) joined Kawai with a second place finish in the men's long jump, leaping 21 feet, 3.25 inches. In the women's high jump, Mackenzie Huddleston (Fr., Milwaukie, Ore.) tied for second in her Pacific debut, leaping 4 feet, 11.75 inches.
In the sprints, Kelli Aken-Pagdilao (Jr., Makakilo, Hawaii) opened her outdoor season with a second place finish in the 100 meters, clocking 13.13 seconds. Sean Valente (Jr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) added a pair of third place finishes, running the men's 200 meters in 23.25 seconds and the 400 meters in 51.28 seconds.
Daniel Wagner (So., Kailua, Hawaii) led a strong outing for Pacific's men's hurdlers with a pair of third place finishes. Wagner ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.20 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 58.73 seconds. Ted Wogan (So., Klamath Falls, Ore.) finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.11 seconds while Michael Hunker (Sr., Cornelius, Ore.) was fourth in the 110-meter event in 16.24 seconds.
Rachel Schreiber (So., Longmont, Colo.) provided Pacific's only top-three distance performance of the meet, placing third in the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:36.20.
Today's meet also saw the return of Pacific to the women's pole vault. Shina Ching (Fr., Hilo, Hawaii) and Britta LaVoie (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) tied for fourth in their debut performances for the Boxers, clearing 8 feet, 6.25 inches.
ABOUT THIS WEEK'S MEET
LANE PREVIEW
Pacific will enjoy a low-key meet this weekend as the Lane Preview will feature a small made up mostly community colleges and a four-year squad fro Oregon Tech. A number of club and unattached athletes are also expected to compete. All of the throws will take place on Friday beginning at 2 p.m., with the running events and the jumps taking place on Saturday.

STARTING THE SEASON LEAPING HIGHER AND LONGER: After finishing the indoor season with marks close to his Pacific outdoor bests, it was expected that Kelson Kawai would start the season off strong. He followed through with three solid performances in the jumps at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker. He shared top honors in the high jump with Spencer Blanks, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches. The performance is just three-quarters of an inch short of his Pacific career best and currently ranks as the fifth best mark in the NWC (four Whitworth jumpers are tied at 6-5). Kawai went on to place second in the triple jump with a Pacific career best of 44 feet, 4.75 inches. The mark ranks at the No. 8 best in Pacific history. Kawai also managed a sixth place finish in the long jump, leaping 20 feet, 6.25 inches. That mark fell just an inch short of qualifying for the NWC Championships. Kawai finished the indoor season with bests of 6 feet, 4.75 inches in the high jump, 19 feet, 4.75 inches in the long jump and 19 feet, 4.75 inches in the triple jump.
STARTING THE SEASON IN TOP SPRINT FORM: Kelli Aken-Pagdilao also opened her 2013 season with NWC Championships qualifying mark in her two specialty sprint events. The junior and Pacific record holder in the 100 meters placed second in the event at the Linfield Erik Anderson Icebreaker, finishing in 13.13 seconds. Later in the afternoon, Aken-Pagdilao finished sixth in the 200 meters, qualifying for the conference meet in 27.22 seconds. Both performances rank fourth so far in the NWC this season and she was the only Pacific women's athlete to qualify in more than one event over the weekend. Aken-Pagdilao will be looking to improve on her third place finish at last year's NWC Championships, where she reset her own school record with a time of 12.67 seconds.
NO BARRIERS FOR THE HURDLE CREWS: Pacific expects to be strong once again in the hurdles. The Boxers posted notice of that in the opening weekend with five individuals qualifying for the NWC Championships. Daniel Wagner and Ted Wogan posted qualifying marks in both the men's 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Wogan placed second in the 400-meter discipline, clocking 58.11 seconds, while Wagner placed third in 58.73 seconds. Wagner placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.20 seconds while Wogan was ninth in 17.17 seconds. Michael Hunker earned a qualifying mark in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fourth in 16.24 seconds, but was disqualified in the 400-meter hurdles. On the women's side, Chloe Hallyburton (Sr., Dayton, Ore.) gave the Boxers a qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles, placing eighth with a time of 1:13.59.
A BIGGER PRESENCE IN THE DISTANCES: Pacific appears well on their way to improving their scoring potential at the conference meet in the distances with six individuals qualifying in the 10,000 meters and one other qualifying in the 5,000 meters at the Linfield Icebreaker. Tyler Shipley (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) posted the program's fourth fastest time in his first collegiate 10,000 meters, placing ninth in a time of 32:25.22. The time is also the second fastest in the NWC so far this season. Dan Flora (Sr., North Bend, Ore.) clocked a qualifying time of 34:00.76 while Rudy Sanchez (Jr., Albany, Ore.) earned the first qualifying mark of his Pacific career with a time of 34:42.43.
Jilinda Franklin (Sr., Fort Jones, Calif.) led three women's qualifiers in the 10,000 meters, placing sixth in a lifetime best 39:32.66. Kiersten Iwai (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) also ran a lifetime best to place seventh in 40:01.50. The marks improve the two women's times at fifth and sixth on Pacific's all-time list. Ally Shackelford (Jr., Portland, Ore.) also qualified with a time of 41:37.10. Rachel Schreiber (So., Longmont, Colo.) added a qualifying mark in the 5,000 meters. Her third place time of 18:36.20 is the sixth fastest in school history at the distance.
A WELCOME RETURN TO THE VAULTING PIT: For the first time since the 2010 season, Pacific has women's pole vaulters competing. And the Boxers' top two competitors have the ability to challenge for the school record in their freshmen season. Shina Chung (Fr., Hilo, Hawaii) and Britta LaVoie (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) tied for fourth place in the event at the Linfield Icebreaker, clearing 8 feet, 6.25 inches. The marks qualifying the pair for the NWC Championships, but also tie the pair for the third best mark in school history. Kasey Fisher set the Pacific record of 11 feet, 1.75 inches in 2010. Both women enter Pacific with solid prep credentials in the event. Chung was a two-time Hawaii state placer while LaVoie was a three-time Washington state meet placer.

QUALIFYING STANDARDS: For the second straight season, there will not an “A” and “B” qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championships. In 2013, the top-20 declared men's athletes and the top-22 declared women's athletes, in addition to the top-16 declared relay teams, will earn entry into the meet. Qualifiers to the NWC Championships will still need to meet a pre-established qualifying standard.
