Kawai Closes Out Track Season Strong

EUGENE, Ore. – Kelson Kawai (So., North Kohala, Hawaii) showed he has what it takes to compete with some of the best in the state Saturday night as he placed eighth in the triple jump at the prestigious Oregon Twilight meet, held at Hayward Field.
Kawai leaped 43 feet, 1.75 inches, which was his third best effort in the event this season. He was the only competitor from a NCAA Division III school in the event. Thomas Kmett of Washington won the event with a mark of 47 feet, 4.5 inches.
Kawai no heighted in a challenging high jump competition. He missed on all three attempts at the opening height of 6 feet, 6 inches, which would have been a lifetime best. Justin Frick of Shore Athletic Club won with his leap of 7 feet, 3 inches.
