Zane Zips To Tremendous Start At Linfield Icebreaker

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Michael Zane (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) put together an impressive start to his Pacific track and field career Saturday, zipping to a first place finish in the 100 meters and second in the 200 meters to lead the Boxers in the season-opening Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker, held at Maxwell Field.
Zane clocked the fastest time of the 36-man field in the 100 meters, finishing in 11.25 seconds. His winning time was a full tenth of a second ahead of second place Nevin Lewis, who clocked 11.36 seconds. Zane followed that up with a second place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.67 seconds.
The freshman's performances led a day that saw nine Pacific athletes score top-five finishes in their respective events. Kelli Aken-Pagdilao (So., Makakilo, Hawaii) joined Zane as a top placer in the sprints as she finished fourth in the women's 100 meters in a time of 13.21 seconds.
Jenna Matsumoto (Sr., Waipahu, Hawaii) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.95. Kori Bellwood (So., Yamhill, Ore.) finished just behind in fifth place in 1:09.27. Daniel Wagner (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii) placed sixth in the men's 110-meter hurdles in 16.45 seconds while Ted Wogan (Fr., Klamath Falls, Ore.) was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 58.72 seconds.
Rachel Schreiber (Fr., Longmont, Colo.) turned in a strong performance in her first 5,000-meter race on the track, finishing fourth in 18:47.90.
Chloe Hallyburton (Jr., Dayton, Ore.) led four Pacific jumpers to post top-five finishes, placing third in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3.75 inches. Trent Dixon (Fr., North Powder, Ore.) was fourth in the men's version of the event, going 6 feet, 1.5 inches while Kelson Kawai (So., North Kohala, Hawaii) placed fifth with a jump of 6 feet. Kawai also managed sixth place in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet, 3.25 inches.
Nicole Smith (Sr., Wailuku, Hawaii) opened her senior season with a fifth place performance in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 10 inches.
Pacific continues action next weekend as they take part in the Pacific Lutheran Invitational on Saturday in Tacoma.
