DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Before competing in the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association national meet in late January, Pacific's women's wrestlers not competed, let lone practiced much, in folkstyle wrestling.

In the end, the lack of practice did little to affect the Boxers as they came away as the national runner-up at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association's Women's Nationals, held Thursday through Saturday at Ocean Arena.

Jordyn Lee (Fr., Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Andrina Ramos (So., Kahuku, Hawaii) earned national championships in the competition's two lightweight classes to lead the Boxers, while Megan Chun (Fr., Aiea, Hawaii) and Rustee-Ann Johansen (Fr., Hilo, Hawaii) earned runner-up placements to earn All-America distinction.  Jodi Ozaki (So., Waikoloa, Hawaii) finished fourth in the 121-pound weight class.

The four led Pacific to a second place team finish with 61.5 points.  They trailed a familiar foe, Southwestern Oregon CC, who had three national championships and ran away with the team title with a total of 83.5 points.

Ramos won two of three matches by pin en route to the national title at 112 pounds.  She dispatched Southwestern Oregon's Claudia Prerz-Narvaez in 1 minute, 27 seconds before scoring an 8-2 decision over Central Washington's Cady Chambers in the semifinals.  In the championship, Ramos needed just one round to secure the win with a 2 minute, 51 second pin of North Florida's Ashley Rodriguez.

As luck would have it, Lee would need to wrestle only one match to earn the championship at 105 pounds, knocking off her teammate Chun with a 1 minute, 42 second pin.  Chun won her preliminary round match with a second round pin over New Hampshire's Nicole Clark.

Johansen role in her first two matches in the 130-pound bracket, scoring a pair of first round pins over Samantha Decker of Bowling Green State and Sonia Beri of San Jose State to reach the final. There she fell to a familiar opponent in Southwestern Oregon's Bridiana Mendoza, who collected a 15-3 major decision.

Ozaki advanced to the semifinals of the 121-pound bracker before falling to Winona State's Kelli Rasmussen in a first round fall.  She beat Southwestern Oregon's Katy Dawson in a third round pin to advance to the consolation final, where she lost to Southwestern Oregon's Shay Workman by a 8-2 decision.
