Hurdlers Lead Day For Boxers At PLU Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. – It was the hurdlers leading the day for the Pacific track and field teams Saturday as the Boxers had six athletes place in the barriers at the PLU Invitational, held at the PLU track.
 
The Pacific women had three athletes place in the 400-meter hurdles alone.  Kori Bellwood (So., Yamhill, Ore.) led the way, winning the event in a time 1:08.08 despite cool and rainy conditions.  Jenna Matsumoto (Sr., Kailua, Hawaii) was a close second in 1:09.23 while Jessica Head (So., North Bend, Ore.) placed fourth in 1:11.62.  Earlier in the day, Matsumoto placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.57 seconds.
 
Michael Hunker (Jr., Cornelius, Ore.) and Ted Wogan (Fr., Klamath Falls, Ore.) each posted third place finishes to lead the Pacific men.  Hunker came through third in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.91 seconds, while Wogan was third in the 400-meter event in an impressive 57.80 seconds.  Hunker came through fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.89 seconds while Daniel Wagner (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii) finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.15 seconds.
 
In the distances, Jilinda Franklin (Jr., Fort Jones, Calif.) captured first place in the 10,000 meters, coming across the line in a time of 41:15.44.  Rachel Schreiber (Fr., Longwood, Colo.) placed fifth in the 800 meters in 2:29.82 while Hayley Brusewitz (So., Longview, Wash.), competing in her first meet in nearly two years, finished fifth for the Boxers in the women's steeplechase in a time of 12:32.37.
 
Kelli Aken-Pagdilao (So., Makakilo, Hawaii) led the way for the Pacific sprint corps, placing third in the 100 meters in 12.96 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.10 seconds.
 
Kelson Kawai (So., North Kohala, Hawaii) racked up a pair of fifth place finishes in the jumps.  He placed fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet while tying for fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet, 7.25 inches.  Trenton Dixon (Fr., North Powder, Ore.) finished just behind Kawai in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches.
 
Aaron Koford (So., Wilsonville, Ore.) was the only Pacific thrower to finish in the top-five, capturing fourth place in the discus throw with a mark of 131 feet, 8 inches.
 
Pacific comes home this weekend for the first of three scheduled 2012 home meets.  The Pacific Preview begins on Friday with the decathlon and heptathlon, with the main body of the meet taking place on Saturday.  Action on Friday begins at 10 a.m., with Saturday's meet beginning at 9 a.m.
