Linda McIntosh, ATC

Linda McIntosh has been Pacific's head athletic trainer since 1988. She oversees all operations of the athletic training department, the athletic training facility and supervises the student athletic training staff.

McIntosh has 26 years of athletic training experience. She has received numerous awards for athletic training excellence. She was selected to be a certified athletic trainer for the 1996 Paralympic Games, held in conjunction with the Olympics in Atlanta.

McIntosh holds a bachelor's of science and a master's of science degree from the University of Oregon and is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).

Philip Lentz, ATC

Philip Lentz is in his first year as an assistant athletic trainer at Pacific. He joined the program in June 2007.

Lentz comes to Pacific after serving two seasons as a graduate assistant trainer at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. Lentz worked primarily with the Wolves' football, women's soccer and baseball programs while working towards his master's degree. Prior to his work at WOU, Lentz spent four years at George Fox University as a student assistant trainer, and primarily worked with the men's basketball, volleyball and track and field squads. In 2004, Lentz spent one season as a student assistant at Portland State, working with the football program.

In addition to his university work, Lentz has worked such events as the OSAA/U.S. Bank High School Track and Field Championships, the Les Schwab Bowl high school football all-star game and the prestigous Les Schwab Invitational boys' basketball tournament.

Lentz earned his master's degree in exercise and sports science from Oregon State in 2007. He earned his bachelor's degree in health and human performance (athletic training emphasis) from George Fox in 2005.

Alma Sproul, ATC

Alma Sproul enters her first year as an assistant athletic trainer at Pacific, having joined the program in June 2007.

Sproul recently completed two years as a graduate assistant trainer at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. She worked primarily with the women's soccer program, but also assisted with various other sorts in the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. In addition, Sproul also conducted much of the supervisory of Oregon State graduate athletic training students working at WOU.

Prior to WOU, Sorpul spent one year as a physical therapist's aide and one year as a personal trainer with Bally Total Fitness. Sproul also spent four years as a student athletic trainer at Linfield College, including work with the Wildcats' football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, women's soccer and baseball programs.

Sproul graduated from Oregon State in 2007 with her master's degree in exercise and sports science. She earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training and physical education from Linfield in 2004.

Richard Rutt, Ph.D, PT, RN, ATC

Richard Rutt, dean of Pacific's School of Physical Therapy, assists the athletic training program as an assistant athletic trainer.

Rutt joined the faculty of the School of Physical Therapy in 1993. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Morningside College (S.D.), majoring in Spanish and French. He received his Master of Science degree in physical therapy from Texas Women's University and his doctoral degree in exercise physiology from the University of Virginia.

Rutt presently teaches applied physiology, medical disabilities, orthopedics and research design and statistics in the School of Physical Therapy. He also teaches advanced human physiology in the School of Physician Assistant Studies and various undergraduate courses for the Department of Exercise Science.

Dr. Brad Butler, M.D.

Team Physician

Dr. Brad Butler has served as Pacific's team physician since 1997. Dr. Butler is a sports medicine specialist, affiliated with the Orthopedic & Fracture Clinic in Portland.

Dr. Butler is fellowship trained in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, and works with a full range of orthopedic patients. He has special skills in the reconstruction of shoulders, elbows, knees and ankle using arthroscopic techniques.

In addition to working with Pacific athletes, Dr. Butler is the medical director for the Center of Sports Medicine at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and provides athletic training services for Cycle Oregon.

Married with three children, Dr. Butler earned his medical degree from Tulane University in 1988 and served his residency in orthopedics at Tulane. He is a fellow with the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons.
