MAKE IT THREE: Juniors Cat Goya and Megan Yoshimoto continue to be a power in Northwest Conference women’s tennis and were selected to their third consecutive All-Northwest Conference teams.
Goya is a three-time first team selection and Yoshimoto has been on second team for three straight years.
Goya was the mainstay for Pacific at the No. 1 singles position, compiling a 7-8 overall record and a 6-6 record against conference opponents. On Mar. 26, Goya tabbed a key 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) win over Whitworth’s Rachel Burns, the Northwest Conference’s Player of the Year.
Yoshimoto produced the best record for Pacific going 13-2 overall and 10-2 in conference play in the No. 2 singles spot. She strung together two five-match winning streaks during the season.
In doubles play, Goya and Yoshimoto teamed up to collect a 5-9 overall record and a 4-7 conference record at the No. 1 flight.
MAKING ADJUSTMENTS: The Pacific roster this season had just one sophomore, two seniors, two juniors and five freshmen, along with a new head coach.
Sarah Ansboury stepped into the head coach position last fall and inherited a team that placed sixth in the conference in the 2009-10 season with a 6-14 record and lost only two players.
Ansboury mixed her returners and freshman talent to put together for an overall record of 3-12 and a 3-9 NWC record to finish seventh in the conference standings.

The top three positions stayed the most consistent for Pacific with Cat Goya, Megan Yoshimoto and Rachel Mizuno holding up the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions for the Boxers with a joint record of 25-10. In the No. 4, 5, 6 spots, four players were shuffled around to produce the best line-up each match. Stephanie Velligas, Kelsey Trujillo, Kelsey Lack and Traci Mo all found themselves mixed into the line-up to strengthen the Pacific attack and put together an 11-34 combined record in those three positions.
In doubles play, Pacific’s line-up stayed relatively consistent with Goya and Yoshimoto in the No. 1 spot, Mizuno and Velligas at No. 2 and Mo and Trujillo in the No. 3 position.
Goya and Yoshimoto finished with a 5-9 record, while Mizuno and Velligas went 5-7. Mo and Trujillo played the early part of the season with a couple different partners before pairing up to go 4-3 and end the season on a three match winning streak.
SAYING GOODBYE: The Boxers bid farewell to two senior on their roster this season, Stephanie Velligas and Traci Mo. Velligas compiled a 4-11 overall record and a 4-8 conference record playing in the lower three positions for Pacific this season and a 6-9 record in doubles playing mainly with Rachel Mizuno in the No. 2 spot. In her four years, she put together a 15-38 singles record and 20-47 doubles record. Mo put together a 1-9 singles record and 5-5 doubles record.
