2010-11 Swimming Season Review

THREE MAKE ALL-CONFERENCE: Allison Clark, Michael Hargitt and Dylan Cramer collected All-Northwest Conference Honors by finishing in the top three spots in at least one event at the NWC Championships this season.

A year after making school history by becoming the Boxers’ first NWC women’s champion in the 200-yard individual medley, Clark finished in the top three in two events. She was second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.45, third in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:44.53.

In his first NWC Championship meet, Hargitt left a big impression on the conference for years to come. In his freshman campaign, he finished second in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:07.86, third in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:54.90 and 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.43.

Cramer earned his second All-NWC honors finishing third in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.21. Last season as a freshman, he placed second in 200-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard backstroke to earn his first All-NWC honors.

RECORD CRUSHING YEAR: At the end of the season, the men’s and women’s teams had combined to break 21 records, including seven relay marks and 14 individual records. Sixteen of the records were reset at the three-day Northwest Conference Championship.

On the women’s side, 10 records were broken, three relays and seven individual events. The 400-yard freestyle relay was set at time of 3:44.20; the 200 and 400-yard medley relays were set in times of 1:55.56 and 4:12.40, respectively.

Individually, the 100-yard freestyle mark was set at 55.28 seconds, the 50 and 100-yard breaststroke were set at 33.28 seconds and 1:09.51 and the 100 and 200-yard butterfly were broken with times of 1:01.79 and 2:16.44. Lastly, the 100 and 200-yard individual medley relays were reset to times of 1:04.62 and 2:11.45.

The men registered 11 new records, four relays and seven individual records. The 400 and 800-yard freestyle relays were set at times of 3:18.36 and 7:26.25 and the 200 and 400-yard medley were broken with times of 1:39.99 and 3:38.52, respectively.

Individual records were set in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:58.27, the 100 and 200-yard backstroke in 54.63 and 1:55.21, the 200-yard breastroke in 2:09.43 and the 100, 200 and 400-yard individual medley in 56.44, 1:54.90 and 4:07.86.

CALLING ALL TROOPS: The 2010-11 season saw an increase in the number swimmers on the Pacific squad. The women’s team roster featured 13 swimmers and the men’s roster held 11 swimmers.

With the larger teams the Boxers became more competitive at dual meets and at the conference meet. The men’s team finished with a 5-4 dual record and the women ended the year 4-5, while the both squads moved up one spot from last season and finished fifth at the NWC Championships.

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: The Boxers were led for the most part this season by freshman and sophomores. Freshman Hargitt and sophomore Cramer were the leaders on the men’s side and sophomore Allison Clark and freshmen Alex Bing and Laura Ross led the women.

Hargitt broke four individual records over his first collegiate season, including the 100, 200 and 400-yard individual medleys (56.44, 1:54.90, 4:07.86) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.43). He also contributed on the 200 and 400-yard medley record-setting relays (1:39.99, 3:38.52). Hargitt also garnered NWC Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week honors on two occasions. On Nov. 23 he was selected after being named the Northwest Invitational’s Outstanding Swimmer and he was selected again on Feb. 1.

Cramer broke school records he had set as a freshman in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke (54.63, 1:55.21). He also swam a leg in every record-setting relay race, the 400 and 800 freestyle relay (3:18.36, 7:26.25) and the 200 and 400-yard medley relays (1:39.99, 3:58.52). He was also honorable mention for NWC Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week on Feb. 8.

Clark continued to build off her strong freshman campaign and continued to be a consistent force for the Boxers in the 200-yard breaststroke and individual medley events. She broke her own school record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:11.45. Clark also played a role in the record-setting 400-yard medley relay (4:12.40). She earned NWC Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week honors on Nov. 23 after being named Outstanding Swimmer at the Northwest Invitational.

Bing started the season strong breaking the 50-yard breaststroke record in a time of 33.28 in the second meet of the year. A month later she broke the 100-yard breaststroke, but went on to break her record in this event two more times and by the end of the season it was set at 1:09.51. She also was a part of all three record breaking relay teams; the 400-yard freestyle (3:44.20) and 200 and 400-yard medley relays (1:55.56, 4:12.40). Bing was honorable mention for NWC Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week on Nov. 16.

Ross was became a force for the Boxers in the butterfly events. By the end of the season she had broken the 100 and 200-yard butterfly in times of 1:01.79 and 2:16.44, respectively. She was also honorable mention for NWC Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 25 and Feb. 1.
