Boswell Steps Down As Women's Soccer Coach
The University of Portland and Pacific University graduate steps aside to pursue other opportunities after four years leading the Boxers
FOREST GROVE – After four seasons leading the Pacific University women’s soccer program, Joy Boswell has announced that she is resigning as head coach to pursue other professional opportunities.
Boswell’s decision was announced to members of the women’s soccer team on Wednesday. Her last day will be Jan. 31.
“The time is right to hand off to the next coach and take the Pacific program to the next phase,” Boswell said. “I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to coach here and continue my soccer career.”
Boswell compiled a 20-52-6 in four seasons as Pacific head coach. She led the 2009 Pacific team to a 7-10-3 overall record and a sixth place finish in the Northwest Conference standings. The team’s six NWC wins and sixth place finish were the best for the Boxers since the 2003 season.
A national search for Boswell’s replacement will commence immediately.
A 1995 graduate of the University of Portland, Boswell played four seasons for the legendary Clive Charles and shared the pitch with Olympians Tiffany Milbrett and Shannon MacMillan. She also completed a second bachelor’s degree, graduating from Pacific in 1998, and earned a master’s degree from Portland State in 2004.
Prior to taking the Pacific position, Boswell spent four seasons as head girls’ soccer coach at Sunset High School. She has also coached at Southridge, Jesuit and Forest Grove high schools and with the FC Portland Academy.
