TIANNA HOMAD
1st Pacific Goal Is Game-Winner

FOREST GROVE – Tianna Homad (So., Seattle, Wash.) scored the game-winner in the second minute Saturday, setting the pace for Pacific as they posted a 3-0 shutout over Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference women’s soccer action at Lincoln Park Stadium.

Homad, who was a last-minute insertion into the starting lineup, needed all of 81 seconds to score the first goal of her Pacific career when she connected to the right corner of the net off a long cross from outside the box by Jenny Novak (Jr., Dexter, Ore.).

The strike set up a strong day offensively for the Boxers (6-9-2, 5-7-1 NWC), who snapped a three-match losing streak with the victory.  Pacific outshot the Pioneers 22-10 and held an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

A quiet second half offensively broke open all of a sudden in the 75th minute when Jenna Matsumoto (So., Kailua, Hawaii) broke away from her defender and took a cross from Teri Shigeno (So., Meridian, Idaho) into the right corner of the net for her third goal of the season.  Just a minute later, Cheryl Yasumoto (Sr., Waipio, Hawaii) connected on a one-timer from 25 yards out that deflected off the hands of L&C goalie Elise Delgado.  It was Yasumoto’s first goal of the season.

The Pioneers (3-9-5, 2-9-2 NWC) finished with a pair of solid attempts in the first 45 minutes.  The first came in the 10th minute when Gillian Sullivan-Bing rocketed a shot towards the crossbar, which was parried over by Pacific goalie Brittany Hartmann (Fr., Portland, Ore.).  Gina Watkins put together an attempt from the top of the box in the 22nd minute, which was also saved.  Liska Havel had Lewis & Clark’s only shot on goal in the second half, which came in the 57th minute.

Hartmann earned her fifth shutout of the season, finishing with three saves.  Delgado made eight saves in the loss for the Pioneers.  Becca Roth (Sr., Rainier, Ore.) led Pacific with five shots while Katie Cabuling, Havel and Molli Bauke each had two shots for Lewis & Clark.

Pacific hits the road for their next two matches.  They will play against Pacific Lutheran on Sunday in Tacoma, Wash.  Lewis & Clark plays their home finale on Sunday, hosting George Fox.
