Miller Falls Short In Final Nationals Qualifying Shot

Summary:

Women's Track & Field: NTS | Stats

Angie Miller is unable to improve her mark in the long jump at the Willamette Last Chance Meet, falling short of qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships

SALEM, Ore. - Angie Miller's (So., Alsea, Ore.) quest to secure a spot at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships fell short in the final meet of the year as she failed to improve her mark at the Willamette Last Chance Meet at the Chuck Bowles Track.

Miller placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 9.5 inches.  It was her second best effort of the season.  Cindy Walsh of George Fox won the event with a mark of 18 feet, 1.5 inches.

The meet took place on the final day for qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships.  Miller entered the meet tied for the 37th best mark in Division III with her season best and school record of 18 feet, 0.5 inches.  She needed to improve her mark by at least seven inches to qualify for the championship, which will take up to the top 20 marks in the nation.

Risa Allen (Sr., Portland, Ore.) did not compete at Willamette after leaping to a school record of 38 feet, 9 inches at Saturday's Oregon Twillight.  That effort ranks 12th on the Division III best list, all but assuring her a spot at the national championships, which takes place next Thursday through Saturday in Marietta, Ohio.
