Allen, Rafferty Lead Boxers In First Home Meet

FOREST GROVE - Winning efforts by Risa Allen (Sr., Portland, Ore.) in the triple jump and Rebecca Rafferty (Fr., Scappoose, Ore., pictured) in the discus highlighted the day for the Pacific track and field teams as they hosted their first meet of the season, the Northwest Conference Preview, Saturday at Lincoln Park Stadium.
Allen fought off rainy and windy conditions to win the triple jump for the second straight week, finishing just off her season best mark with an effort of 34 feet, 10.5 inches. Rafferty, meanwhile, won the women's discus in the first ever discus competition held at the stadium, earning the de facto stadium record with a conference meet qualifying mark of 107 meet.
Rafferty led three Pacific athletes who gained their first NWC Championships qualifying marks of the season, all on the women's side. Amanda Basham (Fr., Sweet Home, Ore.) was a qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in a time of 12:30.02. Jenna Matsumoto (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii) earned a mark in the 100-meter hurdles, placing fourth with a time of 16.72 seconds.
Tony Lam (So., Portland, Ore.), John Fredericks (So., Forest Grove, Ore.) and Murphy Busek (So., Mountain View, Hawaii) led the Pacific men with second place finishes. Lam was second in the 400-meter hurdles with a season best of 59.15 seconds. Fredericks was second in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet, 11.75 inches, while Busek was runner-up in the shot put with his effort of 40 feet, 3.5 inches.
Karissa Fuller set a stadium record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 12:04.61. Southern Oregon's Akeem Jackson and Linfield's Jeremy Lovell set a stadium mark in the long jump with their leaps of 22 feet, 2.25 inches, while the Linfield 400-meter relay team of Mike Eldredge, Josh Lovell, Jeremy Lovell and John Torsey set a stadium record of 42.57 seconds.
Pacific returns to action next weekend, with the majority of the Boxers' athletes competing in the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open. Throwing events take place Friday at the Concordia Throws Center in Portland, while the remainder of the meet rakes place Saturday at the Eldon Fix Track. Select Pacific athletes will compete Saturday at the Oregon Preview at Historic Hayward Field.
