Howe Paces Pacific To First NWC Win Of Season

NEWBERG, Ore. - Garold Howe (Sr., Salem, Ore., pictured) led Pacific through a 50 percent shooting night to earn the Boxers their first Northwest Conference victory of the season Tuesday, taking a 76-66 victory over George Fox in men's basketball action at the Wheeler Sports Center.
Howe posted a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Boxers (6-6, 1-3 NWC) shot 50 percent (26-52) from the field and 57.1 percent (8-14) from three-point range.
A.J. Gaulton (Jr., Pleasant Hill, Ore.) added 14 points and four assists. Jordan Carter (Fr., Lake Stevens, Wash.) scored 11, Todd Hinderman (Sr., Stanwood, Wash.) connected for 11 and Micah Mooney (Sr., Junction City, Ore.) had 10.
Alex Stockner and Bryan O'Connell led George Fox (4-10, 0-5 NWC) with 16 points apiece as the Bruins took their fifth straight loss. The Bruins shot 44.3 percent (27-61) from the field and were out-rebounded by the Boxers 38-31.
After a close opening five minutes of the contest, the Boxers ran out to an eight-point lead on Mooney's three-pointer at the 12:11 mark. George Fox kept things close, coming to within four on three occasions over the next six minutes and then cut the lead to one on Dan Lingenfelter's three-pointer with 3:04 left in the stanza.
Pacific closed the half by scoring eight unanswered points, paced by a pair of Gaulton treys, giving the Boxers a 35-26 halftime lead.
The Boxers opened the half by amassing their first double-digit lead of the game, going up 13 on a Howe jumper just over a minute in. George Fox closed to within eight points at the 14:56 mark, but a run of five points that culminated on a Marcus Kienlen (Fr., Scappoose, Ore.) three-pointer put the Boxers up by 15 with 13:39 remaining.
Pacific amassed their biggest lead of 17 points on a Hinderman lay-in at the 3:26 mark before the Bruins went on a 15-6 run, paced by nine points by Atwater, that closed the lead to 74-66 with 28 seconds to go. Carter closed things out with a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left, ending any chance of a comeback.
