Anderson's 19 Points Cannot Grizzle Bruins

Summary:

Women's Basketball: Loss : 80-55 | Stats

A 19-point performance off of the bench by Brittney Anderson could not counter 11 three pointers as No. 11 George Fox rolled to an 80-55 women's basketball victory

Brittney AndersonNEWBERG, Ore. - A 19-point performance off the bench by Brittney Anderson (Fr., Missoula, Mont., pictured) was not enough to counter a hot outside performance by No. 11 George Fox Tuesday night as the undefeated Bruins rolled to an 80-55 victory over the Boxers in Northwest Conference women's basketball action at the Wheeler Sports Center.

Anderson posted the second highest scoring performance of the season for the Boxers (2-10, 1-3 NWC), connecting on 7 of 10 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line to go along with seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

The effort was not enough to counter a night in which the Bruins (14-0, 5-0 NWC) hit 11 three-pointers and shot 43.3 percent (26-60) for the contest.  Kristen Shielee paced George Fox with 17 points.  Laura Silva added 11 and Keisha Gordon scored 10.

Rochelle Reeves (Jr., Gresham, Ore.) was the only other Boxer in double figures, scoring 10 points as the Boxers shot 39.2 percent (20-51) from the field, 5 of 13 from three-point range and 10 of 13 from the free throw line.

Shielee scored five points on two baskets and a free throw to start the contest as the Bruins jumped out to a 10-5 lead five minutes into the game.  The Boxers responded with a 6-0 run, including a bucket and two free throws by Anderson, to take their only lead of the game at 11-10 with 12:29 to go in the period.

Gordon answered with back-to-back three-pointers for a 16-11 Bruin advantage, and the home team never trailed again.  With Shielee providing 14 first-half points, the Bruins surged to a 17-point halftime lead of 46-29.

The Boxers closed within 12 points at 48-36 early in the second half on a lay-up by Julianne Erbe (Fr., Canby, Ore.), but that was as close as the Boxers would get.  The Bruins gradually extended the lead until it reached 25 at 78-53 on a three-pointer by Laura Silva with 34 seconds remaining.

Pacific will return to the Pacific Athletic Center for their long awaited home opener on Friday, hosting Willamette at 6 p.m.  The game will broadcast live via the Boxer Sports Network.  Log on to www.goboxers.com/multimedia/webcasts.cfm to listen.
