Shipley, Schreiber Leads Way For Boxers At Northwest Classic

EUGENE, Ore. –
Tyler Shipley (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) and
Rachel Schreiber (So., Longmont, Colo.) led the way for Pacific's cross country teams Saturday as the Boxers competed at the Northwest Cross Country Classic at Lane Community College.
Shipley cruised his way to third place in the men's 4-mile race, finishing with a time of 21:14. He was bettered by two runners from the UO Running Club. Casey Campbell won the race in a time of 20:20, while Robert McLauchlan was second in a time of 20:37.
The performance by Shipley led the Boxers to a second place finish in the men's team race with a score of 68 points. The UO Running Club won the race with 18 points as they took six of the top seven positions. Pacific was the only four-year school in a field populated primarily of community colleges.
Schreiber led the way for the Boxers in the women's 5,000-meter race, placing fourth with a time of 19:35.
Jilinda Franklin (Sr., Fort Jones, Calif.) finished just behind Schreiber with a time of 19:46. The pair led the Boxers to a third place team finish with a score of 51 points.
Willamette and the UO Running Club tied in the women's team race with 36 points, with Willamette capturing top honors based on the finish of their sixth place runner.
Dan Flora (Sr., North Bend, Ore.) was the No. 2 runner for the Boxers on the men's side, placing 14th in a time of 21:39.
Joe Deardorff (Sr., Independence, Ore.) finished 18th in 21:46,
Jerry Sanchez (Sr., Mecca, Calif.) was 21st in 22:05 and
Rudy Sanchez (Jr., Albany, Ore.) rounded out the scoring five as he placed 25th in 22:11.
Punneh Abdolhosseini (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) was the Boxers' No. 3 runner for the women, placing 14th in a time of 20:36.
Kiersten Iwai (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) finished 16th in a time of 20:44 and
Hayley Brusewitz (Jr., Longview, Wash.) rounded out the scoring five, placing 18th in a time of 20:55.
Pacific will take the next weekend off from competition before turning its sight to the biggest non-championship meet the team has competed at in recent history. The Boxers will compete in the Division III Pre-Nationals on Sat., Oct. 6, at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
