Boxers Tie Up Trio Of Third Place Finishes At Boxer Open

FOREST GROVE – Pacific's lower weight classes led the way Saturday as three Boxer wrestlers earned third place finishes at the Boxer Open in men's wrestling action at the Stoller Center.
Zach Binkerd (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) placed third at 125 pounds while
Eric Harder (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) finished third in the 133-pound bracket. The two lightweights joined Wes Heredia (Fr., Keizer, Ore.), who placed third at 197 pounds.
The trio led a total of seven placers for the Boxers in their final tournament-style competition before the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Tournament later this month.
Ian Hockett (Fr., Sherwood, Ore.) finished fourth at 125 pounds while the team received fifth place finishes from
Ryan Baxter (Fr., Craig, Alaska) at 141 pounds,
Caleb Malychewski (So., Camas, Wash.) at 184 pounds and
Nik Streng (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii) at 197 pounds.
Binkerd rebounded from a loss in his opening match to take two victories by fall. He scored a second round pin over Joe Cordes of the Eastern Washington club in the consolation semifinals before going 82 seconds to pin teammate Hockett in the final.
Harder won his first round match over Central Washington's David Kuich before being sent to the consolation bracket in a 9-6 decision loss to Southwestern Oregon's Robert Barton. Harder did not lose again, pinning teammate
Ricky Ridela (So., Spokane, Wash.) in the consolation semis before beating Kuich in a 14-5 major decision to win third place.
Heredia followed Binkerd's lead by coming back after an opening round loss to win his next two matches. Heredia needed just 17 seconds to beat Streng in the consolation semifinals before scoring a 12-4 major decision over Oregon State's Pete Gidlund to complete the run.
Pacific will complete the 2011-12 regular season with a pair of dual matches next weekend. The Boxers will wrestle at defending junior college national champion Clackamas CC on Thursday before hosting No. 2 (NAIA) ranked Southern Oregon on Friday.
